A retreat delivered in English
The Israelites had held that there was an intrinsic link between suffering and sin. Job is an upright and innocent man who, notwithstanding this, is struck by suffering – he is the classic innocent sufferer. In this regard he challenges the old tenet by refuting the arguments of his three friends, whilst also arguing with God. He is not satisfied with the answers that the former gave him, whilst the latter does not speak to him till the very end when he reveals himself to Job showing him the divine grandeur and wisdom. God rebukes Job’s friends for not having been honest, but justifies Job, who had spoken truthfully and who now is in awe of God’s majesty bowing down in front of an inscrutable God.
Cost: €105 for single room, €100 per person in double room
