Thank you for your interest in our Mana Wāhine Symposium kaupapa - Taki Lewa: Filling The Feminine Cup (Kava Circle) - presented to you by Taki Lewa, Gemma Elbourne-O'Rourke.
Please note this session will be young adult focused - R18.
Taki Lewa is an exploration of restoring Yin — the feminine, relational, intuitive and emotional — within a world shaped by Yang‑dominant systems of speed, production and extraction.
Using the camakau, the traditional Fijian voyaging canoe, as the framework, the session explores the hull and sail as expressions of Yang, while the outrigger and paddle draw participants back toward Yin — understanding these as interconnected forces rather than binaries, and inviting reflection on how personal balance shapes collective balance across relationships, communities and society.
Participants will examine how capitalism, patriarchy and colonisation have sidelined Indigenous, land‑based knowledge systems and the knowledge women have carried, protected and practised across generations. The workshop concludes by imagining what becomes possible when what has been neglected — femininity, reciprocity, relationship and connection — is intentionally brought back into balance.
This session is for wāhine/women who are interested in exploring identity, balance and Indigenous knowledge.
A sulu or lavalava is welcome if you have one; otherwise there will be some available.
This session is limited to 25 spaces. Register for the event at https://forms.gle/cFzGjGGvYWGVb7cN8
