ABOUT THIS SERIES
Taiwan. Whether it’s your new home, a home you never knew, or a home you thought you knew, an honest history of Taiwan is something few Taiwanese can claim to understand — let alone Western textbooks and media coverage.
To meet this need, New Bloom is launching the “Taiwan History Back-To-School” 台灣歷史補課營 series for the very first time this fall. Our debut series features 12 events from August 31 to October 17 — a mix of discussion circles, field trips, guest speakers, and casual socials plus a fun “graduation” party.
#TaiwanHistoryBTS by New Bloom 破土雜誌 is for anyone who needs a new or refresher course on Taiwanese history past to present. We’ll read up on societal turning points, confront difficult realities, share complicated conversations, and find our footing with like-minds.
WHO WE DESIGNED THIS FOR
- Anyone new to Taiwan interested in gaining context for current events, transitional justice, and social discourse.
- Longtime expats who are ready to dip into Taiwan’s real history.
- Taiwanese diaspora interested in relearning history and meeting fellow returnees/tourists. Think of this as “Leftist Love Boat” LOL.
- Taiwanese locals interested in meeting international allies, practicing English, and sharing activism experience. 歡迎各位來跟我們的國際朋友們一起補課分享互動！
- Anyone who loves and cares about Taiwan!
So sign up and join us! Let’s learn together and better appreciate the sacrifices of generations past and the stakes for this country’s future — and grow as responsible voices, allies, or champions for Taiwan.
