Got nowhere to hang out on night 1 of YIMBYtown? Land value tax will fix that.
Join the Progress & Poverty Institute (PPI) on Tuesday, November 17th for free tacos, drinks and conversation upstairs at Slim’s Dive Bar, three blocks from the Raleigh Convention Center.
YIMBYs and Georgists want the same things: more homes, thriving walkable neighborhoods, and landlords who have to earn their rent. Upzoning legalizes housing; LVT penalizes land speculation. Put them both together and you get apartments where that gravel lot used to be, while the land value created by public transit and thriving neighborhoods flows back to the community.
Come trade war stories, swap strategies and plot how our two movements can win together.
Come chew on questions like:
- Why do housing-starved cities still have vacant lots downtown?
- Could we fully fund transit from the land value it creates?
- Upzoning & LVT: necessary, sufficient, or better together?
- Monopoly was invented to make the case for LVT. What's the YIMBY version?
