About this Event

Selly Oak Quakers invite you, and your family and friends, to a special evening as part of the 100th Anniversary celebrations of our building. Children are really welcome.

Narinderjit Lallie introduces us to tabla playing with an interactive workshop and the event finishes with a classical performance of these wonderfully versatile and dramatic drums.

Narinderjit has been playing tabla for forty years. He teaches all ages through Gurmat Sangeet Academy in Birmingham. He performs regularly in concerts and plays for Sikh worship. He will be joined by his son Narayan, who has been learning from a young age and now teaches alongside his father.

The evening includes a meal of home cooked curries and samosas. When you book your tickets, please let us know if you have allergies we should cater for. Our food will be a Green Feast, an opportunity to eat lovingly made vegan dishes as an acknowledgement of the need for peace in society.

We are raising funds for Concordis International. Their way of working is to support communities to find solutions that address the root causes of conflict. This is peace making that takes bravery and commitment, skill and patience by staff and community members alike. Concordis was nominated for their work on the ground by American and UK Quakers for the Nobel Peace Prize 2026. Find out a little more about them in this two minute film. And it will take you to a few other short videos about their work if you allow it to run on.

This event is free but please register to help us with catering.

Donations to Concordis International will be collected on the day in cash or with our card machine. Alternatively, you can donate in your own time through their website.

If you have dietary requirements, please drop the organiser an email. Food will be vegan.

Selly Oak Meeting is an Accessible building.

There are regular buses and trains to Selly Oak.

We have bike racks available and parking for those who need to use a car.

The driveway to the Quaker House is marked by a blue Quaker sign on the Bristol Road, driving south. The turn off is fairly sudden, soon after the Bristol Road crosses Oak Tree Lane.
