IntersectionsJoin the Butte College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by Ryan Heimlich, for Intersections: Where Music, Culture & Perspective Meet. This wide-ranging program brings together established works and new music, connecting composers across generations, cultures, and perspectives while exploring the places where musical ideas and influences meet.
The program includes Aaron Copland’s iconic Lincoln Portrait, featuring a live narrator; John Williams’ jazz-influenced Catch Me If You Can, featuring student soloists; the vibrant rhythms of Arturo Márquez’s Conga del Fuego Nuevo; and Florence Price’s Dances in the Canebrakes. Contemporary works by Katahj Copley, Viet Cuong, Nicole Piunno, and Reena Esmail, along with music by Henry Fillmore, round out a program that brings longstanding works of the wind repertoire into conversation with the musical voices of today.
