What is Swing Dancing?
Swing dancing is a family of partner dances that stem from African-American cultural innovations - specifically, the musical and movement traditions that developed from the late 1800s through the 1960s.
The dances that sprouted from this rhythmic tradition would go by the names of Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Charleston, Balboa, Shag, and many other region-specific styles. They all share a common foundation: syncopated rhythm, improvisation, call-and-response, and a focus on individuality within a partnership.
