SWAN LAKE
Presented by Venables Theatre
About the Performance
Ballet Jörgen brings one of the world’s most beloved ballets to life with a distinctly Canadian twist.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia, Bengt Jörgen’s acclaimed reimagining of Swan Lake blends the beauty and tradition of classical ballet with a setting drawn from Canada’s own history. Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score accompanies the timeless story of Odette, a young woman transformed into a swan by the sorcerer Von Rothbart, and Siegfried, whose love may be the only thing that can set her free.
With breathtaking choreography, striking period costumes and an ensemble of exceptional dancers, Swan Lake is a sweeping story of love, deception, sacrifice and redemption. Whether you are a lifelong ballet fan or experiencing Swan Lake for the first time, this uniquely Canadian production offers a beautiful and accessible take on a classic.
