P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome Suzanne McConnell to celebrate and discuss the release of her book If You Think Your Heart Can Take It; in a remarkable variety of forms and masterful prose, this short story collection traces people’s lives caught on the brink of life-changing moments.
Suzanne will be in conversation with Terese Svoboda (The Long Swim: Stories), and will sign books after the talk!
Doors open at 5:30pm with the talk starting closer to 6:00pm. Come early and grab a drink from the !

About the author:
Suzanne McConnell’s award-winning stories have been published in many literary magazines and twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She studied with Kurt Vonnegut at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop where she received her MFA, and has published profiles of him in The Brooklyn Rail and Writer’s Digest, lectured on his work at the American Academy in Berlin and elsewhere, and her co-authored book on his advice on writing, Pity the Reader: on Writing with Style by Kurt Vonnegut and Suzanne McConnell, was published in November 2019 by Seven Stories Press and has been translated into five languages. Her novel, Fence of Earth, is represented for publication by The Phillip G. Spitzer Literary Agency. She taught writing at Hunter College for thirty years and served as Fiction Editor of the Bellevue Literary Review for twenty. She lives in Manhattan and Wellfleet, MA, with her husband Gary Kuehn, a visual artist.
About the moderator:
A Guggenheim fellow, Terese Svoboda is the author of 24 books. She has won the Bobst Prize in fiction, the Iowa Prize for poetry, an NEH grant for translation, the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize, a Jerome Foundation prize for video, the O. Henry award for the short story, and a Pushcart Prize for the essay. She is a three time winner of the New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship, and has been awarded Headlands, James Merrill, Hawthornden, Hermitage, Yaddo, MacDowell, Rowland, VCCA, Bogliasco, and Bellagio residencies. Her opera WET premiered at L.A.'s Disney Hall.
