Saturday 26th September marks the start of Sustainable Fashion Week across the UK.The Mending Circle have marked this each year by taking to the streets of Tamworth to stitch in public. The idea behind Stitch It Don't Ditch It is to encourage passers by to keep their clothing in circulation longer. To help get the message over we will demonstrate just how simple this can be.
For many clothing repairs, all that is needed is a needle and thread. You can stitch almost anywhere and the time it takes is paid back in the money you save in buying new clothes.
More importantly, the cost of mountains of discarded clothing is taking it's toll on the planet so all the textiles we can reuse, repair and recycle is extremely valuable.
Put this date in your diary and try to join us on the day. Thanks to Tamworth Borough Council and Tamworth Market, we will have our own marquee in the town centre from 10am-4pm.
