In English belowSusien merkitys: Pelko, myytit ja yhteiselon tulevaisuus

Why Wolves Matter: Fear, Myths, and the Future of Coexistence
Wolves play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, yet their history has largely been one of persecution by humans.
In this thought-provoking lecture, we will explore the science, myths, conflicts, and ethical questions surrounding wolves and other large carnivores.
Why do societies fear predators? What does research actually say about wolves and human-wildlife conflicts? Can humanity move from a culture of domination and exploitation towards one of coexistence?
We will also examine the politics behind the so-called "population management" of large carnivores in Finland, why many conservationists reject the concept, and whether it serves as a justification for trophy hunting rather than a genuine conservation tool.
As part of the A-ryhmä lecture series, Francisco Sánchez Molina, Large Carnivore Coordinator of Luontoliiton Susiryhmä, will present an engaging, evidence-based discussion on predators, biodiversity, and the future of our relationship with nature.
At a time of accelerating loss of nature, this lecture will encourage participants to reflect on the kind of relationship with nature we wish to leave to future generations, and whether a more compassionate and respectful coexistence with wild animals is possible.
Everyone is welcome. 🐺🌿
