Dear friends, clients and fellow artists. If you haven't heard yet, my lovely wife, Susan Herrera, fell and broke her left ankle while walking down some concrete stairs at the Mihama train station in Japan. (She was attempting to show me her old neighborhood.)
I'll spare you the details of her injury and simply say that she has endured two surgeries and the Japanes do not use pain management drugs (beyond Acetaminophen). She has been a real trooper.
We had planned this trip 8 moths ago, and had trip insurance to cover situations like this. Unfortunately, as foreigners, the Japanes medical and insurance industries require us to pay first, then seek compensation. Thus we have burned through quite a lot of saving.
To this point, it has been suggested by several of you that we hold a benefit concert to help raise money to help us while Susan is recovering.
She won't be able to work or bare weight on her ankle for 8 to 10 weeks, due to the broken ankle, reattachment of ligaments and a tendon.
All of that to say, I have organized a fundraiser concert this coming Oct 4th, calling on many friends in the Knoxville music scene as well as from the regional traditional music world.
This is a non ticketed show. We are asking for a suggested donation of $20 or give what you can.
