In this course, students will be introduced to a range of surface decoration techniques using brushes, surface resists, and gridded patterning. Sean will demonstrate each technique and provide individualized, hands-on guidance as students practice on their own work. This workshop is geared towards high-fire clay + materials, but these methods are adaptable across various firing temperatures and clay bodies to offer a broad foundation for developing rich, dynamic ceramic surfaces.The workshop will cover the fundamentals of composition, the use of underglazes and oxide pigments, and brush techniques for creating intuitive marks and patterns. Students will be encouraged to incorporate their own influences and inspirations into the development of their surfaces.
