𝗙𝗶𝗴𝘀 (𝗙𝗶𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀) are a widespread and diverse group of plants that take on many forms and functions - from temperate trees that yield edible figs to tropical epiphytes that "strangle" their host tree or even buildings.Figs also have a remarkable fruiting body with a highly-evolved symbiosis with tiny wasps.
They play a 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, especially as a critical food source for wildlife.
