Dive into summer adventure! National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium Summer camps provide children entering Kindergarten through 5th grade with exciting, hands-on adventures and interactive programs all summer long.July 7-9: Explorers of the Driftless: In this camp, kids will explore the land along the Mississippi River and the Driftless Region. Campers experience different forms of nature like rocks, bluffs, hills, and riverbanks while learning how the land was shaped long ago. Kids discover fossils, learn why some areas have steep hills and caves, and find out why this region is special. Through games, crafts, and hands-on activities, campers learn that rocks and land can tell stories.
July 21-23: River Rats: Explore the Mighty Mississippi and discover the magic of the river. Slip on your mud boots and join us for a hands-on adventure in river and animal science! Roll up your sleeves and explore our wetland area and the Port of Dubuque. By the end of camp, campers will understand how to respect and care for the river while having a fun and adventurous experience.
July 28-30: Survival Camp: In this outdoor adventure, campers learn the basics of staying safe and confident in the wilderness. Kids practice survival skills through games, hands-on activities, and challenges. Campers will learn how to respect nature, work as a team, and stay calm in any situation. Survival Camp builds confidence and a love for adventure while teaching skills every explorer should know.
August 4-6: Living History: Location: Mathias Ham Historic Site.
Through hands-on activities and simulations, campers will learn the history of Westward Expansion, the Victorian era, the Driftless Area, early settlers of Dubuque, and life along the Mississippi River. Campers will participate in traditional pioneer chores, be students in a one-room schoolhouse, experience life like a settler in a log cabin, work in a replica lead mine, and explore the newly restored Ham House.
