Five choirs. Nearly 100 singers. Generations of women. One powerful story.Join Carmen KC and four area choirs for the Kansas City premiere of Andrea Ramsey’s Suffrage Cantata, a moving musical telling of the decades-long fight for women’s right to vote.
Through powerful choral music and spoken word, Suffrage Cantata brings to life more than 70 years of struggle, honoring the courage and perseverance of suffragists and the often-overlooked contributions of women of color. The work celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment while acknowledging that many women continued to face barriers to voting long after 1920.
This special intergenerational performance brings together nearly 100 singers from five choirs:
• Carmen KC
• Notre Dame de Sion High School
• Shawnee Heights High School
• Washburn Rural High School
• Washburn University’s Vox Aura
Together, these singers will share the story of generations of women who fought to make their voices heard.
