Sudamericanto: Songs of Unity and Resistance from Latin America
Saturday, November 7, 2026 | 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM | Doors 7:00 PM
La Peña Cultural Center, 3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA
Join us at La Peña Cultural Center for an evening of música latinoamericana that celebrates unity and resistance in the spirit of interpreters such as Mercedes Sosa, Susana Baca and Elis Regina. Special Tribute to Piero.
Sudamericanto’s unique brand of music combines folk rhythms from Brazil, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba and Puerto Rico. Sudamericanto leans on the power of song to liberate our souls and celebrate our ROOTS, taking audiences along a musical storytelling journey across South America and the Caribbean.
Led by multi-faceted Puerto rican vocalist/interpreter Madeleine Zayas alongside high caliber Bay Area musicians/educators, Sudamericanto performs original arrangements of classics from Victor Jara, Milton Nascimento, João Bosco, Chico Buarque, Guinga, Pedro Luis Ferrer, Tite Curet Alonso, El Topo as well as originals by Marcos Silva and Madaleine Zayas.
Tied together in harmony with music creativity and intertwined with folk and jazzy flavors. Sudamericanto’s musical influences include Afroperuvian landó, zamacueca, Brazilian samba and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), puertorican bomba and guaracha, joropo venezolano, son Cubano and boleros.
