About this Event
The subversive sewing circle is a way for women and our allies to come together to enjoy community and conversation while we create. It has been an excuse to gather and support each other through the ages, and it has gained new importance in our fast-paced, ever-changing world.
Sewing circles have been popular during times of war and economic depression to encourage mending clothes and linens rather than replacing them. Today, sewing circles naturally challenge the wasteful fast-fashion industry and encourage a more sustainable attitude toward the clothing we wear and the blankets and quilts that keep us warm through cold winters.
Please bring your own fiber art project to work on as we learn about the history of sewing circles and cultivate a subversive mindset that promotes mending and making do.
