Many hands make light work. Studio Love was built by a lot of hands. Partners, husbands, wives, ex-husbands, kids, friends, family, the folks next door, and members showed up to sand, clean, organize, shop, haul reformers through the door, and put them together piece by piece. They fed us both emotionally and physically. Our teachers, our front desk Goddesses, our community, and Mala, our official mascot, supervised every step.On November 15, we gather to say thank you and receive the blessing of our Shakti Ma.
Shakti Ma opens the afternoon with a SHAKTI blessing for the space and every person who made it our home (Mala included). There will be fire, smoke, and magic. Then she and the Rainbow Serpent lead Studio Love's first-ever kirtan.
New to kirtan? Think of it as a sing-along for the soul. Kirtan is singing together. That's the heart of it.
Shakti sings a short, simple line, and everyone sings it back. Then she sings it again, a little faster or a little louder, and the room follows. There's live music with a big band, the words are easy to pick up, and nobody is listening to your voice but you.
It comes from Bhakti, the yoga of love and devotion. Instead of moving your body through poses, you open your heart through sound.
You don't need to know the words, the songs, or anything about yoga. You don't need to be a singer. Sing, hum, clap, sway, or sit quietly and listen. Every way of being there is the right way.
Most people walk in curious and walk out smiling. Shakti is lively, joyful, and impossible not to smile around. Come ready to laugh, and to leave lighter than you came.
This event is a community offering and all are invited to attend as our guests.
