About the Capriol Chamber Orchestra
Capriol Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1987 by Bruce Critchinson. The orchestra is formed from a diverse group of people from many walks in life who enjoy playing a wide range of repertoire from Baroque to the present day. The orchestra presents three concerts a year in local churches within the Stroud area.
We encourage local soloists and composers whenever possible and are always interested in supporting local events. Winners of the Gloucestershire Young Musician of the Year are regular soloists.
About Clare Hammond – piano soloist
A “pianist of extraordinary gifts” (Gramophone) and “immense power” (The Times), Clare Hammond is recognised for the virtuosity and authority of her performances. In 2016, she won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s ‘Young Artist Award’ in recognition of outstanding achievement. Community engagement forms an increasingly important part of Clare’s work. Since 2017, she has performed to over 9,600 schoolchildren in partnership with Gloucestershire Music and Wye Valley Music in Schools.
About Jonathan Trim – conductor
Jonathan grew up in Stroud and studied Music at Birmingham. He teaches violin and viola and coaches ensembles and orchestras across Gloucestershire including the county youth orchestra, Stroud Symphony Orchestra and Capriol Chamber Orchestra.
He has been involved with National Children’s Orchestra coaching and conducting since 2009 and presently tutors for the Benedetti Foundation.
Several of Jonathan’s orchestral compositions have been performed widely including Celtic Fantasia for massed strings, Heart of the Five Valleys, a musical depiction of the Cotswold landscape, and “Symphonia”, a musical response to the global pandemic and performed at the Stroud Arts Festival in 2021.
Jonathan was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2015 for his contribution to the work of Rotary International.
About Natasha Bowen-Jones – leader
Natasha studied violin at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, having first discovered her love of music at the age of 9 through the Leicestershire Schools music system. Benefitting from free instrumental tuition from junior school right through to college, Natasha is keenly aware that without this opportunity, music would not have been accessible to her — and she remains grateful for the foundation it provided and the many wonderful opportunities it has led to.
Although she went on to build a career in project management, Natasha has continued to pursue her passion for music as an enthusiastic amateur. She has a particular love of chamber music and regularly attends residential courses to benefit from professional coaching and to explore a wide range of repertoire. Natasha plays with Stroud Symphony Orchestra as well as leading the Capriol Chamber Orchestra, where she brings her collaborative spirit and commitment to accessible, joyful music-making to every performance.
