Forty years after Depeche Mode released Music for the Masses, Strangelove-The Depeche Mode Experience announces its most ambitious touring celebration yet: the 2027 “40 Years of Music for the Masses” World Tour, launching in January on the East Coast before continuing across the United States throughout the winter and spring, followed by a European tour in summer and fall.
This will be more than a celebration of an album. It will be a journey back to the moment when Depeche Mode changed the scale, ambition and cultural perception of electronic music in America. Released September 28, 1987, Music for the Masses marked a pivotal point in Depeche Mode’s evolution. Featuring such enduring songs as “Never Let Me Down Again,” “Strangelove,” “Behind the Wheel,” “The Things You Said,” “Sacred” and “Pimpf,” the album fused synthesizers, sampling, industrial textures, dark romanticism and enormous melodic hooks into something that was simultaneously intimate and monumental. (Depeche Mode)
The album’s title, while intending to be ironic, proved almost prophetic.
The subsequent Music for the Masses Tour ran from October 1987 through June 1988, ultimately encompassing 101 performances. Its American dates included increasingly enormous venues, culminating in the legendary June 18, 1988 concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. (Depeche Mode) That trajectory forms the heart of Strangelove’s 2027 celebration.
Strangelove-The Depeche Mode Experience is the world’s foremost full- production tribute show dedicated to faithfully recreating the music of Depeche Mode. With a focus on delivering an authentic live experience, the band has garnered acclaim for their meticulous attention to detail and passionate performances and has fans all over North and South America and Australia. Strangelove-The Depeche Mode Experience is a supergroup of sorts, comprised of NY/LA/Dutch artist/producers in their own right. The band members have many current credits/collabs with household-name artists (such as musicians with: Depeche Mode, The Cure, David Bowie, Morrissey, Bauhaus, Love & Rockets, etc.).
The Strangelove members have several placements in TV/film/video games with their active respective original-music projects and inked a record deal for original music as Strangelove in 2024 with Harmony Records in USA. On tour, they are united by a common love of Depeche Mode’s incredible body of work and a unified vision to celebrate these songs with the energy and intensity they were initially presented to the world.
Jimmy Gnecco is the iconic voice, presence, writer and multi-instrumentalist behind the American band OURS; and an island unto himself. He has earned the love and respect of musicians of all musical genres, as well as some of the greatest producers and music industry executives of our time.
