Story of….

“Story of…” is a filmed performance with one woman on stage, moving and dancing to the sound of drums and the voices of other women describing how they imagine this performance to be. The video creates a universe that relates dance to intimate and personal stories about the female body, motherhood, and grieving. The project delves into the women's silenced and private narratives and attempts to voice what “should not” be discussed in public, what makes social conversations awkward, and what prevents women from grieving in public.
Through the interplay of movement, drums, voices, and images, “Story of…” creates a space where these intimate stories can be heard, witnessed, and embodied.
On stage, a belly dancer moves to the sound of drums, flutes and strings played by Nancy Mounir, interacting with or embodying the voices and images of women telling their stories of motherhood. Alone on stage, Sherin Hegazy draws on the original vocabulary of belly dancing around fertility, fecundity and femininity to navigate between joy, loss, mourning and healing. Her pelvis undulates, trembles and shakes, as if to question the memory it carries and the roles assigned to it.
Filmed in Cairo and Dubai, Bissane Alcharif's images focus on the hands, eyes and mouths of these women as they recount what has not been heard enough, opening up sensitive spaces to welcome and echo these vulnerable and resilient stories.

Theater Is A Must Festival tenth edition “Return” 6-17 November 2026
This is the tenth edition of the Theater Is A Must Festival under the theme “Return”. We revisit concepts, art forms, influential moments in our contemporary political and social history, and myths. Through our artistic choices, we will create a dramaturgical line of concepts and issues that we would like our contemporary theater to address in the 21st century. Through Egyptian, Arab and European contemporary theater performances, we will organize a contemporary theatrical experience that includes the desire to return, pause and reflect on defining moments, pausing to deconstruct these contexts through theater that questions the past and engages with our recent history. We celebrate atypical and non-traditional theatrical forms and continue to imagine our vision of a theater that transcends pity, fear and catharsis.

«Story of…» هو عرض أدائي مصوَّر، تظهر فيه امرأة واحدة على خشبة المسرح، تتحرك وترقص على إيقاع الطبول وأصوات نساء أخريات يصفن كيف يتخيلن هذا العرض. يخلق الفيديو عالمًا يربط الرقص بحكايات حميمة وشخصية عن جسد المرأة، والأمومة، والحِداد. يغوص المشروع في السرديات النسائية الخاصة والمسكوت عنها، ويحاول أن يمنح صوتًا لما «لا ينبغي» الحديث عنه في العلن، ولما يجعل الأحاديث الاجتماعية محرجة أو غير مقبولة، وللظروف التي تحول دون حِداد النساء في العلن.
ومن خلال تفاعل الحركة والطبول والأصوات والصور، يخلق العرض مساحة يمكن فيها لهذه الحكايات الحميمة أن تُسمع وتُرى وتتجسد.
على خشبة المسرح، تتحرك راقصة شرقية على صوت الطبول والناي والآلات الوترية التي تعزفها نانسي منير، متفاعلة مع أصوات وصور النساء اللواتي يروين حكاياتهن عن الأمومة أو متجسدة فيها. بمفردها على خشبة المسرح، تستند شيرين حجازي إلى المفردات الأصلية للرقص الشرقي المرتبطة بالخصوبة والإنجاب والأنوثة، لتتنقل بين الفرح والفقد والحِداد والتعافي. يتحرك حوضها في تموجات وارتعاشات وهزات، كما لو كان يتساءل عن الذاكرة التي يحملها وعن الأدوار التي أُسندت إليه.
صُوّرت المشاهد في القاهرة ودبي، وتركز صور بيسان الشريف على أيدي هؤلاء النساء وعيونهن وأفواههن بينما يروين ما لم يُسمع بما يكفي، لتفتح مساحات حساسة لاستقبال هذه الحكايات الهشة والقوية في آنٍ واحد وترديد صداها.

هذه النسخة هي العاشرة من مهرجان لازم مسرح تحت عنوان عودة. نعود لزيارة مفاهيم وأشكال فنية ولحظات مؤثرة في تاريخنا السياسي والاجتماعي المعاصر وأساطير. من خلال اختياراتنا الفنية سوف نصنع خطأ دراماتورجيا للمفاهيم والقضايا التي نرغب أن يعالجها مسرحنا المعاصر في القرن ٢١. نحاول أن نعود لأدوار وتساؤلات المسرح الأولى وأثره في حياة الناس، من خلال عروض مسرحية مصرية وعربية وأوروبية سوف ننظم تجربة تلقي مسرحي معاصرة تنطوي على الرغبة في العودة و التوقف والتأمل في أوقات فارقة، نتوقف لنفكك هذه السياقات من خلال مسرح يطرح الأسئلة على الماضي ويشتبك مع تاريخنا القريب. نحتفي بالأشكال المسرحية غير النمطية وغير التقليدية ونستمر في رسم رؤيتنا لمسرح يتجاوز مشاعر الشفقة والخوف والتطهر.
