About this Event
Stories Matter Film Club is a monthly gathering for people who want to watch brilliant films and talk about them properly — the story, the craft, and the questions underneath.
You watch the film at home in your own time. Then we meet over drinks for a conversation about what we saw.
Please note: this month we’re on a Wednesday, not our usual Thursday.
November’s film is 13TH, Ava DuVernay’s Oscar-nominated documentary. It takes a single clause buried in the amendment that abolished slavery — except as a punishment for crime — and follows that one line all the way to the largest Pr*son population on earth.
It’s an hour and forty minutes, and it’s free to watch on YouTube, as well as being on Netflix.
Doors from 7pm, we start talking at 7.15, and we finish at 9.
The Skylight Room at The Beech House, Beaconsfield — just ask at the bar when you arrive.
Twelve places, free to attend. You don’t need to know anything about film, and there are no right answers.
At the end of the evening you’ll choose December’s film.
