Stories in Sound is a monthly live conversation series in Brixton. One artist, one honest conversation built around a nostalgic playlist they've chosen themselves - the songs that shaped them long before they made their own. Then the floor opens for your questions, and a DJ closes the night.
For September, I'm joined by Idele.
East London R&B and soul, and one of the most quietly assured voices coming out of the city right now. "Slow Down" was 1Xtra's track of the week. She's a BBC Introducing Step Up artist with a Timbaland co-sign, and she's played SXSW London and the Royal Albert Hall. Her debut EP I Wish I Never Knew You is the kind of record that rewards sitting with it properly - which is exactly what this room is for.
I've wanted to ask her about the music underneath her music for a while. On September 27th, we find out together.
About the room
Spirits & Sounds is small. There's a small stage and very little distance. After the first event, people told me it felt like overhearing two friends talk, and that several of them ended up somewhere in their own memories through someone else's playlist. That's the whole point.
