About this Event
Eden Smith and the Artists of Indian Road
In 1896, the English-born architect Eden Smith built a house for his family on Indian Road, in what was a fledgling-garden suburb on the edge of High Park. As the leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement in Toronto, Smith favoured steep gables, tall chimneys, and honest materials over Victorian ornament. Painters and friends soon followed him to the street, many commissioning homes of their own.
Join Heaps Estrin real estate agent and architectural historian Alex Corey for a walk through one of the earliest residential subdivisions in High Park to see the house Smith built for himself and the homes he designed for his circle of artists.
Note: All proceeds from our Storied Homes Walking Tours are directed to charitable organizations within the neighborhoods where the walks take place. For this event, donations will support The High Park Zoo.
