🛑 STOP PARLEY INCINERATOR EXPANSION 🛑Peaceful Vigil Outside BCP Planning Committee
📅 Thursday 19th October
🕘 9am
📍 Bournemouth Civic Centre
The fight against the Parley incinerator expansion continues.
On Thursday 19th November, the Eastern BCP Planning Committee will be meeting at Bournemouth Civic Centre. The application to increase the amount of waste burned at the already-approved Parley facility — from 60,000 tonnes a year to 105,000 tonnes a year — may not be decided at this meeting.
But we'll be there anyway.
We want the councillors who will eventually decide this application to see that local people are paying attention — and that we will not accept the expansion of waste incineration in our area.
We'll be holding a peaceful vigil outside the Civic Centre to send a clear message:
🚫 NO INCINERATOR EXPANSION
🌍 NO MORE BURNING OUR WAY THROUGH THE CLIMATE CRISIS
Increasing Parley's proposed burning capacity is unnecessary, irresponsible and at odds with BCP Council's own waste strategy, which places greater emphasis on reducing waste, increasing recycling and moving towards a more sustainable approach to dealing with what we throw away.
And there's an important bigger picture.
The Parley facility has had planning permission for several years, yet construction has still not begun. We believe the project may not be commercially viable at its currently permitted capacity of 60,000 tonnes a year.
If the expansion application is defeated, that could fundamentally undermine the case for the incinerator itself.
That's why this planning application matters.
We don't need more capacity to burn waste. We need to reduce waste, reuse more, recycle more and invest in genuinely sustainable solutions — not lock ourselves into decades of burning waste and producing greenhouse gas emissions.
With the climate crisis accelerating, building more infrastructure for burning waste is the wrong direction of travel.
✊ JOIN US
Come along on Thursday morning and help us show councillors that local people are watching, we care about what happens to our communities, and we oppose the expansion of the Parley incinerator.
We'll have signs and placards available for people to hold, so just bring yourself — and bring a friend!
This will be a peaceful and respectful vigil, but our message will be anything but quiet:
60,000 tonnes is already too much.
105,000 tonnes is unacceptable.
Stop the Parley incinerator expansion. 🌍✊
