Friends and Neighbors:Please join us on Sunday, November 1st at 1:00 PM for our first petition-gathering canvassing party. We'll meet at the gazebo in Woodstock square, divide up into small groups, and head out into the streets to go door-to-door collecting signatures for our referendum.
As a reminder, we're collecting petitions to get a referendum question added to the ballot for the April 2027 election. The question we want asked is:
Should the City of Woodstock discontinue its use of networked automated license plate reader systems (ALPRs) and networked artificial intelligence-based surveillance camera systems and thereafter be barred from procuring or contracting for the same?
In plain terms: Should the city stop using Flock Safety and be restricted from contracting with Flock Safety or any other mass-surveillance vendors (eg: Axon, Motorola, etc) in the future.
We are not asking residents to support one position or the other with their signature, only that they believe that as residents in a democracy, we should all have a say about the future of our community.
If you've never canvassed before, this will be fun and low-pressure way to get started. If you're looking for a way to get involved with our efforts, this is a great place to start. Meet the team, meet your fellow concerned citizens, help build up your community and contribute to making Woodstock, Illinois a welcoming and safe place for all of our residents and visitors.
We really hope to see you there.
