About this Event
This is the day it all comes together. Since October, neighbors, longtime residents, business owners, church members, and friends of Jefferson Street have been gathering to tell the story of this historic Nashville community - its golden age as home to Fisk University, Meharry Medical College, and a thriving Black business and music district; the disruption when Interstate 40 divided the neighborhood; and what Jefferson Street looks like today.
Join us to see those stories brought to life in cloth. The community's art quilts, pieced together from repurposed clothing and the memories stitched into them, will be unveiled and displayed for the first time.
Bring the whole family for an afternoon of:
- The unveiling and display of the finished Jefferson Street story quilts
- Live music
- Community activities for all ages
- Free refreshments
- A chance to hear the stories behind the quilts, straight from the neighbors who told them
This grand celebration is free and open to everyone - Jefferson Street residents and families, business owners, Fisk and Meharry alumni and students, church congregations, neighbors from the surrounding community, and anyone who wants to celebrate Jefferson Street's story. Whether you shared a memory this fall or are hearing these stories for the first time, you're invited.
Tickets: Free - General Admission. No refunds necessary.
Presented by Sandra Lee Design, in partnership with First Baptist Church, with support from a Metro Arts Thrive Project Grant (fiscal sponsorship provided by The Forge).
