More than four decades after Austin guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan crossed the border for a sweltering July date in 1983 at the fabled El Mocambo in Toronto, that night remains one of the most legendary live sets in blues history — captured just five weeks after the release of his debut LP, Texas Flood.Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at The El Mocambo is a historic set that included scorching originals mixed with covers from blues titans like Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Lonnie Mack and John Lee Hooker. The night also extended to rock's lineage by including three Jimi Hendrix covers, proving that Stevie Ray was part of an exciting new breed, complete with its own set of reference points. As for the performance itself, it was delivered with a fire and passion that was uniquely Stevie's and arced from emotionally raw to fiercely powerful.
