About this Event
Join us for an exclusive event to celebrate the publication of The Last Death Poet by Stephen Daly; an LGBTQ+ coming-of-age novel set in Belfast with a paranormal twist. Stephen will be in conversation with Josh Silver, author of Traumaland and Fruit Fly, as they explore queer representation in YA fiction, identity and home, and the power of a coming-of-age story.
Stephen Daly is an author and photographer from Belfast. With a background in theatre, Stephen knows that storytelling is the best way to reflect the complexities of life. The Last Death Poet has personal resonance; Stephen grew up as a queer young man during the Troubles and left the country at eighteen to try and be himself. He believes it's time to tell more queer Irish stories. The Last Death Poet is Stephen's debut YA novel; an LGBTQ+ coming-of-age novel set in Belfast with a paranormal twist.
Josh Silver grew up on a farm in the Lake District, before moving to Manchester where he spent his teenage years. He trained as an actor at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and went on to perform in the West End and on Broadway. After deciding to change careers, Josh worked with teenagers as a mental health nurse. His debut novel, HappyHead, has won multiple regional awards as well as being nominated for the Carnegie Medal for Writing and shortlisted for the 2024 YA Book Prize.
