Eight Saturdays. Aquaponic greenhouses, a wetland on the bird migration path, a real hike at West Cave, and a cheetah breeding program in Glen Rose.
STEM Saturdays is a monthly field science series from The Texas Girls School for girls in grades 5 through 8 and the caregiver who brings them. You register as a pair. You travel as a pair. You do the science as a pair.
Every girl comes with her caregiver
A mom, a grandmother, an aunt, a big sister who's 18 or older, a guardian, whoever that person is for her. She doesn't drop off. She comes along, all day, and does the science right next to her girl.
You don't need a science background. You don't need to know the answers or explain anything. You just need to be curious out loud, which turns out to matter more than knowing.
Open to everyone
You do not have to attend The Texas Girls School. STEM Saturdays is open to any girl in grades 5 through 8 in the Austin area. Bring a friend, a cousin, a teammate, a neighbor.
How a day works
We gather at The Texas Girls School for an opening circle. Chairs in a ring, coffee for the grown-ups. Everyone says their name and one thing they're curious about, and we pose the scientific question of the day. Then each family drives to the site.

Girls earn a field patch for each trip. Collect all eight and they assemble into one design.

Closed-toe shoes every time and weather layers. A participant agreement, medical form and photo release are part of registration.
Participation carries no preference in TTGS admissions. Our enrollment lottery is unaffected.
