Stella Space returns to Smalls with saxophonist Taweesak “Pipe” Booranapanitpan leading the quartet through modern jazz shaped by a deep connection to the music of John Coltrane.

Pipe’s relationship with Coltrane’s music runs especially deep. His graduate work at Mahidol focused on A Love Supreme, examining Coltrane’s improvisational language as well as the music itself. That influence remains part of Stella Space’s identity, with the band exploring open improvisation, contemporary jazz and strong ensemble interaction rather than simply reproducing the original recordings.

In 2026, Stella Space brought that connection directly to the stage with an A Love Supreme performance for International Jazz Day in Bangkok. The current quartet brings together Pipe with bassist Sorakrich “Toop” Suwarathananat, drummer Sirawit “Oat” Phattarakittisophon and pianist Sahassanant “Zing” Vetchapitak.

🎷 Taweesak “Pipe” Booranapanitpan – Saxophone
Taweesak “Pipe” Booranapanitpan is a Thai saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator closely associated with the College of Music, Mahidol University. His graduate work centered on John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, including analysis of Coltrane’s improvisational language and performance practice. Alongside Stella Space, Pipe has been involved in jazz education, arranging and large-ensemble projects at Mahidol, including work connected with the Mahidol University Jazz Orchestra and Mahidol Saxists.

🎻 Sorakrich “Toop” Suwarathananat – Bass
Sorakrich “Toop” Suwarathananat is a Bangkok bassist whose work crosses jazz, contemporary composition and experimental performance. He has appeared in both small-group jazz and contemporary composed-music settings in Bangkok, including performances at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, and is part of Stella Space’s current quartet and its recent Coltrane-focused work.

🥁 Sirawit “Oat” Phattarakittisophon – Drums
Sirawit “Oat” Phattarakittisophon is a young Thai drummer studying Jazz / Drum Set at the College of Music, Mahidol University. His background also includes percussion competition experience, and by 2026 he was behind the kit for Stella Space’s International Jazz Day performance of A Love Supreme, bringing a younger generation of Mahidol-trained players into Pipe’s long-running project.

🎹 Sahassanant “Zing” Vetchapitak – Piano
Sahassanant “Zing” Vetchapitak is the pianist in Stella Space’s current lineup and was part of the quartet for the band’s 2026 A Love Supreme program. Within the quartet, piano adds another harmonic and textural voice to a group built around improvisation, interaction and a contemporary approach to the modern-jazz tradition.
