Which genre has the highest body count? Is it harder to write a sex scene, or a gruesome death scene? Help us determine the winner in this battle of ROMANCE VS. HORROR!
Of course, everyone is a winner when they’re reading books that they enjoy--whether they involve fighting monsters, or loving them. That being said, for the sake of entertainment, we will be tallying points. And the audience will help decide who gets the trophy*! (*There's no real trophy, sorry. It's just a metaphor.)

TEAM SPOOKY:
Sonora Taylor (she/her) is the award-winning author of several books and short stories. Her books include Errant Roots, All the Pieces Coming Together: Collected Works, Split Scream, and more. She also co-edited Diet Riot: A Fatterpunk Anthology with Nico Bell. Her short stories have been published by Rooster Republic Press, PseudoPod, Kandisha Press, Camden Park Press, Cemetery Gates Media, Tales to Terrify, Sirens Call Publications, Ghost Orchid Press, and others.
She has won two Ladies of Horror Fiction Awards: one for Best Novel (Without Condition) and one for Best Short Story Collection (Little Paranoias: Stories). In 2024, her nonfiction essay, “Anything But Cooking, Please,” was a Top 15 finalist in Roxane Gay’s Audacious Book Club essay contest.
She co-manages Fright Girl Summer, an online book festival highlighting marginalized authors, with V. Castro. She also serves on the board of directors of Scares That Care.
L. Marie Wood (she/her) is a celebrated psychological horror author, and the winner of multiple awards, including the Bram Stoker Award®, the Golden Stake Award for Literature, and the International Impact Book Award. She is also a MICO Award-winning screenwriter, an Elgin Award finalist poet, an accomplished essayist, and a playwright. Wood has won over 50 national and international screenplay and film awards. She has been published in groundbreaking works, including the anthologies Sycorax's Daughters and Slay: Stories of the Vampire Noire, as well as industry staples such as the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and Nightmare Magazine and in multiple languages. Her papers are archived as part of University of Pittsburgh’s Horror Studies Collection. Wood is the president of the Horror Writers Association, the founder of the Speculative Fiction Academy, an English and Creative Writing professor, as well as a horror scholar. Avery Flynn (she/her) is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author who has sold more than a million books, which have been translated into multiple languages. She has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip. She lives outside of Washington, DC with her family and a pack of five dogs all named after food. If she’s not reading romance or binging reality TV, she’s most definitely plotting to take over the world so she can banish Crocs from existence. Also, if you figure out how to send Oreos through the Internet, she’ll be your best friend for life.
