Step into the grandeur and history of Werribee Park, where lavish gardens, sweeping landscapes and remnants of a 19th-century pastoral empire come together for a fascinating day out. Return to Werribee via the Werribee River Trail. Our walk begins among the elegant grounds of Werribee Mansion, the heritage-listed centrepiece of the estate. Take time to wander through the beautifully designed formal gardens, enjoy a picnic, and soak up the expansive manicured landscape, complete with an ornamental lake and intricately crafted grotto.
If we’re lucky with the timing, we may also be treated to a spectacular burst of colour at the Victoria State Rose Garden, home to thousands of roses in bloom.
We’ll then step back into the working history of the estate as we explore the old bluestone farmyard buildings — a striking contrast to the ornate craftsmanship of the mansion. From there, we’ll wander towards the heritage orchard, where community volunteers and Parks Victoria have helped preserve and restore the fruit trees originally planted by the Chirnside family in the late 1800s.
But the day isn’t over yet!
We’ll make our way to the dramatic K Road Cliffs, before following the scenic Werribee River Trail back towards town.
Expect around 12 km — an easy, enjoyable day of gardens, history, river views and spectacular scenery.
