Join Dr. Joseph Jones and Jim Wyrosdick for an evening under the stars at Don Carter State Park. There will be 3 telescopes set up and years of experience as we "hike" through the sky!The star hike begins on the ecliptic line trail. We’ll begin in the SW with the almost 1st quarter moon and move east along the trail until we find Saturn. We’ll learn about lunar phases and how these “wandering stars” stay on the trail.
Then we’ll go bushwhacking to the Zenith (the peak of the sky) and star hop around the Summer Triangle, tiptoeing through the Milky Way, while we tell tall tales about the constellation trail blazes in the sky. Finally, we’ll find our way home using the North Star (Polaris). But we’ll need to watch out for bears!
Dr. Joseph Jones: retired UNG Astronomy/Astrophysics professor, Planetarium & Observatory director (25 years)
Jim Wyrosdick: experienced Amateur Astronomer, volunteer UNG Planetarium & Observatory Operator and maintenance technician (+20 years)
