This two-day beginner class explores stained glass through abstract design, focusing on light, color, and shape in a finished glass panel.
About this Event

This two-day beginner class explores stained glass through abstract design, focusing on light, color, and shape in a finished glass panel.

Students will learn foundational stained glass techniques including glass cutting, grinding, copper foiling, and soldering while creating their own unique stained glass piece from start to finish. In developing their design, students will select glass for its interplay with light, considering how color, opacity, and texture shift and transform as light passes through the finished panel. Participants may develop their own abstract design or work from a provided pattern to complete a panel up to 7.5” x 9” in size, using a maximum of 20 pieces of glass. By the end of the course, each student will leave with a completed stained glass piece to take home.

What to Expect:This class is designed for beginners, though intermediate students are welcome. The course includes a balance of demonstrations and hands-on practice as students work with colorful glass to build their own design. Projects will focus on abstract, geometric, or organic forms using simple, bold shapes to ensure completion within the two-day format.  Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.

While working in stained glass, participants engage in seated and standing activities such as cutting and assembling glass pieces. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. Learn more about accessibility on our website.

Eligibility: No experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at [email protected] if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.
