Join the fun! Enter your chili in our Third Annual St. Charles Market Chili Competition.
HOW TO ENTER
Participants are encouraged to pre-register their chili using the online entry form found here. Entries received by November 13 will receive a discounted entry fee of $5.00. Day of entry fee will go up to $10. We ask that each participant bring two (2) gallons of chili to be sampled to the market visitors and to the judges.
Day of entries will be accepted. Participants should bring an entry form, chili, and $10.00 entry fee to the City of St. Charles tent before 7:30 a.m. on November 14th.
Enter your chili in one of two categories:
- Red
- White
CONTEST RULES:
DEFINITION - HOMESTYLE CHILI is defined by the International Chili Society as a stew-like, chili pepper flavored dish made with or without meat and any combination of spices and other ingredients. We will have two categories for entry: Red Chili and White Chili.
COOKING
- Competition Homestyle chili must be made from scratch prior to market arrival/set up time.
- This competition is open to amateur cooks/chefs only. No professional entries allowed.
- Each contestant must prepare a minimum of two gallons of chili including 6 ounces for judging. Chili must be brought in a crock pot and contestant must bring an extension cord (at least 10 feet)
- Each contestant will be assigned a contestant’s number by the Riverwalk Market staff.
- A judging cup for each judge will be provided to each contestant. Each contestant will be responsible for verifying that the number on the bottom of their judging cup matches their assigned contestant number.
- At the assigned time, each contestant will fill their judging cups and deliver it to the judging area.
- The contestants will serve their Homestyle chili to the public in 2 oz cups.(these cups will be provided)
JUDGING
- The Chili Cook Off will be judged by judges selected by the St. Charles Market on Main Street.
- Judges will be told that they should vote for their favorite chili in each category based on taste , texture of the meat, consistency, and appearance.
- No known relative of a participating contestant will be allowed to judge or keep score at this cookoff
- No employee or relative of an employee of the City of Saint Charles will be eligible to enter the contest.
AWARDS
Awards will be given to the first place contestant in each category as determined by the judges.
A people's choice award will also be voted on by attendees of the market in each category.
MORE INFORMATION:
- Chilis will be judged on texture, taste, consistency and appearance.
- The first place winners in each category receive a grand prize and bragging rights!
- The judges’ scores will not be distributed to participants.
