About this Event
Boxing Day: the St Albans Mummers will be back on the streets of St Albans telling their tale of St George and the Dragon.
A marathon including five family friendly performances full of fun and song and derring do, will take place around the pubs and landmarks of St Albans including the Abbey, the Clock Tower and the Fighting Cocks.
Joining the duelling duo, the Mummers are pleased to welcome back Father Christmas, The Lord of Misrule, Beelzebub, Bold Tom, A Dodgy Doctor, A Turkish Knight A Giant with a very big stick and Alby the Wonder Horse.
The play itself is part of a much older tradition: a descendant of the folk-plays once widespread in Britain which were performed by local groups to celebrate an important date or local occasion.
This year's performances, each of them lasting approximately 15 minutes, will take place at the following times and places.
- 11.30 Museum / Old Town Hall
- 12.20 White Hart Hotel
- 13.10 West Door of Abbey
- 14:00 Ye Olde Fighting Cocks
- 14.50 The Clock Tower
This is a free event, but to allow us to continue and to donate to a charity, at the end of each performance we ask people to throw money into the “hat”
