About this Event

Spring Plant-Based Cooking Workshop

Looking to brighten up your plate this spring and include more plant-based dishes? In need of some fresh inspiration? Then this spring cooking workshop is for you! Spring is a time for renewal - a time for us to refresh our plates and bodies with vibrant, seasonal produce.

During this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create fresh seasonal dishes, using a variety of plant-based ingredients and have the opportunity to connect with fellow foodies. The session is designed to support you creating wholesome, nutritious meals that are not only good for you but taste great too.

Whether you are 100% plant-based or wish to add more plant-based foods to your plate, we’ve got you covered!

This 2.5 hour workshop will cover some of the basics of plant-based cooking and nutrition. By the end of it, you will have learnt how to cook a variety of plant-based dishes from scratch.

Sample recipes to be made during the class (subject to change, according to availability of ingredients):

· A simple seasonal pumpkin seed pesto

· A deliciously healthy spring salad with a protein punch and yummy roasted new potatoes

· 'Melt in your mouth' spring onion fritters

· A tasty ‘cheeze’ dip

· A gorgeous rhubarb crumble (gluten and refined sugar-free)

This workshop is suitable for all levels, as you are guided through the cooking process step by step, so no prior experience needed. Spaces are limited, so book now to secure your spot!

All proceeds will support the work of local voluntary group Friends of Upper Norwood Rec, helping to nurture and improve this local green gem for the benefit of the whole community. We’re also delighted to be supporting Rockmount Primary School by using their excellent Learning Kitchen - a fantastic space for cooking.

All recipes will be gluten and nut free. However, we cannot guarantee a gluten or nut free kitchen due to the space being used by others.

About the team: Sharon Gardner and Veryan Wilkie-Jones

Sharon is a naturopath, a holistic chef and cookery school teacher (with Made in Hackney), a plant-based nutritionist and Pilates teacher. She has nearly two decades of experience within these fields. She is a passionate advocate of self-care practices, and food as a means of supporting wellness. Sharon enjoys teaching plant-based cooking, and showing people how to create plant-based versions of traditional dishes.

Veryan is founder and Chair of Friends of Upper Norwood Rec, as well as a local resident and former Rockmount parent who was part of the fundraising team for the Learning Kitchen. She has a keen interest in food and wellbeing, having worked for community cookery school Made In Hackney for almost seven years. Veryan is passionate about bringing people together to connect, learn, and feel part of their local community.

About Friends of Upper Norwood Rec:

Friends of the Rec was set up as a community group in October 2022 by a group of local volunteers who felt it was important to protect and nurture this beautiful parkland and leisure space which is loved by so many but had become neglected in recent years.

Since then the group has achieved many great things including planting over 300 young trees, 700 bulbs, and various shrubs at our monthly community volunteer days and in our team sessions. Not to mention keeping the park free of litter! The group has also run two community pond digging days and have put up many bird and bat boxes decorated by locals. Residents have been supported to buy four benches and the latest addition is a big picnic table for eight people! New football goal posts are coming soon, and we would love to continue making improvements to this wonderful space.

To find out more about our group, how to get involved in our community days, or how to join our friendly team email [email protected] . You can also find us on and .
