ABOUT TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
Sunday 11 October is a time of expanding Yang Qi, just past the autumn equinox, when night/day were equally long, and Yin/Yang were balanced. The 5th solar term on the Chinese astrological calendar 清明 Qing Ming ‘pure brightness’. This term is characterized by clear skies, longer days, increasing warmth and accelerated plant growth.
This seasonal phase is governed by the Qi of expansion, and corresponds to the Liver and Gallbladder organs, the Wood Element, and the climatic factor Wind.
We can cultivate our health when we embody the natural Qi of the season. In spring, we do this by rising earlier, getting more daylight, increasing movement and exercise, eating spring greens, socialising and setting plans into motion.
When we lean into seasonal energetics, gain agency over not just our immediate health, by we lay the foundation for preventative health in the long run.
