Spot the GiraffeSG Statue-Benches: Art That Inspires Acts of Kindness

Six uniquely designed GiraffeSG Statue-Benches have been installed at selected high-traffic venues across Central Singapore as part of Central Singapore CDC’s GiraffeSG @ Central movement, which encourages residents to do good in simple, practical ways. The Statue-Benches were created in collaboration with Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) alumni artists, including award-winning sculptor Yeo Chee Kiong, batik artist Kamal Dollah, alongside local illustrator Johnny Lau (Mr Kiasu).

The GiraffeSG Statue-Benches bring art into shared public spaces, inspired by themes of inclusion, care, and collective action. Each design urges people to “stand tall” through small, everyday acts of kindness and consideration.

Several Statue-Benches reflect personal and community experiences. Johnny Lau’s design highlights that every act of kindness matters, no matter how small. Kamal Dollah collaborated with his non-verbal son Budiman to celebrate diverse ways of expressing care, while aspiring artist duo Koh Kai Ting and Ang Zhi Yan worked with primary school children to explore empathy across generations.

Other alumni artists drew inspiration from everyday Singaporean life. Loi Cai Xiang reflects community interconnectedness through nature and nostalgia, Nur Iman and Diamond Nabilah Misson captured quiet gestures of care found in kopi stall culture, and Yeo Chee Kiong invites viewers to extend care beyond familiar circles.

The GiraffeSG Statue-Benches are now installed at Gardens by the Bay, National Gallery Singapore, One Holland Village, Suntec City, UOB Plaza, and VivoCity. Designed to be part of daily life, whether commuting, taking a short break, or meeting friends, the Statue-Benches invite people to pause, reflect, and take action — by volunteering, donating or doing acts of kindness to support the community.

This first collaboration between Central Singapore CDC and NAFA transforms public art into a platform for engagement. It encourages everyone to “stick their necks out for the common good,” contributing to a more caring, inclusive society.
