About this Event
To celebrate the spooky season, we show two spooky movies in the weeks leading up to Halloween. Free popcorn will be served, and a discussion will follow each screening.
In Sisters, (Brian De Palma, 1972, 92 minutes) a journalist witnesses a brutal M**der committed by a model who is one half of a formerly conjoined twin. When the police find no evidence of a crime, the reporter launches her own investigation into the dark, fractured psychological bond shared by the sisters.
De Palma's first horror movie is heavily indepted to both Alfred Hitchcock and his past experimental cinema works, producing a work that has both the thrills and terror of the former and freeform visual style of the latter.
Writing in The New York Times in 1972, Vincent Canby said: "De Palma reveals himself here to be a first-rate director of material that has associations not only with (Polanki's) Repulsion but also with Hitchcock's Psycho. An intelligent horror film is very rare these days. Sisters... is just the thing to see on one of those nights when you want to go to the movies for the old-fashioned fun of it."
