Join folklorist and comics creator Jaromir Stoll (they) for a Halloween-themed comics and zines workshop. The workshop will start with a short talk about the history of spooky stories and comics / zines, from personal ghost stories to urban legends and beyond.
Then, there will be a short discussion of how to adapt stories into comics and zines, with specific guidelines for a few formats: a one-page comic, a two-page comic, and an 8-page minicomic / zine.
Materials will be provided for participants to sketch and ink comics or zines based upon a spooky story of their own. Collections of ghost stories will be on hand for inspiration, as well.
The workshop will include a few breaks, as well as a concluding share-out for showing off the spooky stories that students adapted into comics and zines.
