Ready to put your packing setup to the test on a relaxed, low-stress overnight adventure? Join us for a supportive, social bikepacking ride out to the Awaroa / Godley Head campsite.This trip is designed as a practical first step into loaded riding: a manageable distance close to home, scenic coastal views, and good company around camp to share tips, and trail stories.
If you've never been on a trip like this we recommend you join the Intro to bike-packing we are hosting on the 4th of October.
What to Expect
The Ride: A relaxed-pace, social ride out to Godley Head with plenty of time to get used to how your bike handles loaded with gear. Nobody gets dropped. We will be biking up Rapaki and then ride along the summit road.
The Camp: An evening perched above the harbour at Awaroa/Godley Head. Set up your shelter, test your camp kitchen, and enjoy a laid-back night under the stars.
You’ll need to carry your own tent, sleeping gear, food and personal essentials on your bike, so it’s also a good opportunity to test your setup and figure out what works for you.
Support & Community: A zero-pressure environment to troubleshoot your setup, swap ideas, and build confidence for bigger backcountry missions.
Key Details & Logistics
Date & Time: This is an overnight trip, we leave on Friday afterwork and come back for lunch or earlier the next day
What to bring: We expect you to be self-sufficient so you'll need to bring all the basics: shelter (tent/bivvy), sleep system (mat & sleeping bag), camp kitchen/food, warm/windproof layers, and basic bike spares. There are toilets and water as far as we know at the camp spot (providing they are not damaged before we go).
Campsite Booking: You are responsible for booking your own tent site directly through the DOC booking system for Awaroa / Godley Head Campsite for the night of 30th of October. Book early to secure your spot. https://bookings.doc.govt.nz/
Strictly capped at 10 riders to keep the group tight-knit and manageable.
