What does it actually mean to love someone—and could a machine ever understand it the way we do?
Our next Spoiler Alert: Book vs. Movie Club pick is Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro, and this one should give us plenty to talk about.
Told through the eyes of Klara, an Artificial Friend observing the human world around her, this story explores AI, friendship, loneliness, parenting, sacrifice, and what makes each of us uniquely human. And with AI becoming a bigger part of our everyday lives, this feels like an especially interesting story to read, watch, and discuss together.
For Spoiler Alert, we’ll do what we always do: read the book, watch the movie, and then decide which one did it better. We’ll talk about what changed in the adaptation, what worked, what didn’t, favorite moments, characters, and whether seeing Klara’s world on screen changed how we interpreted the book.
