About this Event
An important part of London’s 2000-year history is the contribution made by waves of immigrants from all parts of the world which helped to shape today’s metropolis. This two-hour walking tour starts and ends in the historic City of London, but primarily focuses on the adjacent Spitalfields and Brick Lane neighbourhood where a large Jewish community from Eastern Europe thrived until the mid- 20th century. Our walk will include some of their stories, plus visits to important synagogues and other sites of historic and cultural significance. Embark on a journey through time as we stroll along streets and alleys where Yiddish was once a common language, and learn about the vibrant local Jewish community of the past - whilst enjoying the sights and sounds of today’s multi-cultural East End. Your guide will also describe 1000 years of Jewish history in Britain. Join us to celebrate London's cultural diversity and the legacy of Jewish people in the heart of this great city.
