Hosted by: The School of Computing, Goldsmiths, University of London — Creative Technology Subject Area
Venue: RHB 137a, Goldsmiths, University of London, New Cross, London SE14 6NW
The School of Computing at Goldsmiths, University of London invites students, staff, and the wider creative community to a special evening talk and discussion on AI and creative practice, hosted by the Creative Technology subject area and in asspciation woth the MA/MFA Computational Arts programme.
Our guest is - the practice of Singapore-based artist and designer Wenhui Lim whose work sits at the forefront of conversations about what AI can do in the hands of artists working with genuine critical and cultural intent.
niceaunties' ongoing project Auntieverse uses generative AI to build a speculative world in which "aunties" - a community of women from Asian communities - are recast as the central protagonists of contemporary culture. Combining surrealism, kawaii aesthetics and social commentary, the work explores cultural preservation, environmental degradation, body image and the politics of visibility, raising urgent questions about who AI imagines, and who it tends to leave out.
The Auntieverse has been exhibited internationally at the V&A London, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark), and the AI Action Summit at the Grand Palais, Paris (2025). In 2024, Wenhui presented a TED Talk in Vancouver and was commissioned by the City of West Hollywood for a public artwork on Sunset Boulevard. Her current solo exhibition, Auntiescapes, is on view at LCAD, Barcelona (7 May – 15 August 2026). Her work has been featured in Forbes, The Guardian and The Straits Times.
The evening will include a talk from Wenhui followed by an open discussion. All are welcome - this is a free public event open to the Goldsmiths community and beyond.
