True storytelling has never been more important to enhance awareness, understanding, and compassion.
Meet Shreveport native Nancy Rosenfeld, traveling from Maui, Hawaii for this rare, one-time opportunity in an intimate evening at the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience as she shares the extraordinary true story behind her acclaimed historical memoir:
50 Cents for a Life: A True Story of Surviving by Synchronicity
In the chaotic early weeks of World War II, 17-year-old Bernard Rosenfeld fled Lithuania alone as borders closed and terror spread. His family was later murdered—something Bernard would not learn for years.
Through astonishing twists of fate, resilience, and unexpected synchronicities, he survived, eventually becoming a longtime resident of Shreveport, contributing to Louisiana’s business, art, and Jewish communities. Yet, he remained silent about his painful past and family tragedies for nearly 50 years, until finally mailing to his daughters a deeply personal manuscript – shockingly candid, emotional, and detailed.
Nancy’s journey to uncover the truth behind her father’s story revealed chilling historical details, new connections to Lithuania, and a legacy reaching far beyond one family.
This is more than a story of survival. It is a story of courage, memory, compassion, and the power of purpose to inform future generations, while shedding light on the strength of the human spirit.
Nancy will share untold stories behind the pages, followed by an open community Q&A, author reception, and book signing.
Books will be available for purchase and signing.
The event is open to the public.
Details about possible livestream/recording options and registration links will be announced soon.
Bring your curiosity and a love for deep preservation of critical historical stories that are more relevant today than ever before.
