Rope 101 and 102 in one afternoon. Entirely self-tied — no partner needed, no experience required. Rope supplied.About this Event
**Keeping with Eventbrite guidelines, this event is not sex based, explicit or pornographic. This is an educational workshop with lecture, guided massage and communication practice, theory, and practical elements as explained in details below.
Why this event
Most rope classes teach patterns. This one teaches the grammar underneath them, so that what you leave with transfers to any teacher, any style, any room. And it is entirely self-tied — which removes the single biggest barrier to rope education, which is not having a partner. You learn everything on your own body.
What happens
We open in circle: your name, your experience with rope if you have any, and what draws you to it. Rope is relational from the first minute rather than technical. Then context — where shibari comes from, and the movement from rope as restraint to rope as expression to rope as communication, with three lenses of practice offered as different ways in rather than as skill levels.
From there: how intention changes what rope feels like, negotiation as an ongoing conversation, and safety as communication — nervous system awareness, circulation and compression, aftercare, rope types and lengths, and the anatomy of a rope.
Then rope in your hands. Handling, the daisy chain, connecting two ends. Friction and tension, and the Quadrant System that becomes the grammar for everything after it — taught on the connection you have just made with your own hands, not on a whiteboard. Your first tie is the Summerville bowline, framed as that system's first application rather than a shape to copy. The afternoon closes with tension types, a working vocabulary of frictions, and structural reinforcement.
What you get out of it
- A system rather than a set of patterns — the ability to learn rope from anyone, anywhere, afterwards.
- Your first tie, and the three core variables of rope communication: speed, tightness, and the space in between.
- Vocabulary that makes you legible to other rope people.
- Access to our online course and app as a continuing reference, included.
