As part of the "Spanish Young Music Talents" program, Spanish clarinetist Ángel Martín will offer a recital with piano in D.C.
About this Event

(SYMT) is the flagship music program of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., launched in 2022. Created to support and elevate the careers of emerging Spanish musicians, SYMT fosters artistic exchange and professional growth through collaborations with leading U.S. music schools, universities, and festivals.

More than just a performance opportunity, SYMT offers a comprehensive international experience. Participating musicians take part in a dynamic array of complementary activities —including masterclasses, lectures, workshops, and networking events— designed to expand their artistic vision and build meaningful professional connections.

All featured artists are under the age of 33 and winners of the prestigious national award from Juventudes Musicales de España, a distinction that recognizes outstanding young musical talent.

Ángel Martín, clarinetist

Ángel Martín (Madrid, 1999) is a Spanish clarinetist and currently serves as principal clarinet with the Lyon Opera Orchestra in France. He began his musical training in Toledo at the Conservatorio Jacinto Guerrero, later continuing his studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid and The Colburn School in Los Angeles. He completed a Master’s degree in Musical Performance at HEMU–Lausanne in Switzerland.

He has performed with leading ensembles such as the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Spanish National Radio and Television, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC), and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, among others. He has also been a member of major youth orchestras, including the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra. Martín is an award-winning musician, recognized in numerous international competitions. Highlights include First Prize at the Jacques Lancelot International Clarinet Competition (2023), First Prize at Juventudes Musicales de España (2019), and First Prize at the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition (2020). .

In addition to his orchestral work, he released his debut album Contrastes in 2022 under Orpheus Classical. Since 2023, he has been an official artist of Buffet Crampon.


GaYoung Lee, Piano

GaYoung Lee, a native of Seoul, South Korea, completed a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance at George Mason University as a piano student of Dr. Linda Apple Monson, Director of School of Music. She earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Catholic University of Korea and pursued additional studies at the Ewha Womans Graduate School of Music in Seoul. GaYoung Lee began piano studies at the age of three in her native Korea. She won First prize from The Piano Society of Korea and was the Second place winner in both the Young Artist Piano Concours and Brahms Concours. In addition, she participated in numerous master classes for such artists as Simone Dinnerstein, Philipp Vogker, Yonghee Chun, and Barry Snyder and music festivals held in Saint Petersburg Conservatory, Russia, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow, New England. She performed as pianist for Mason’s opera productions and accompanied many voice studios at George Mason University. She is a recipient of the College of Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship Award and the School of Music Foundation Award. She was also selected as a featured piano soloist of the Mason Honors Recital, Grand Piano Celebration, and Arts by George in 2018 and 2019.

The best way to arrive is by public transportation. The closest Metro station is Columbia Heights (Green line). Limited metered and two-hour zoned parking is available in the surrounding neighborhoods. Public parking garage is available at DC USA Shopping Mall (Columbia Heights Metro Station).
